Cambodia Legal Update: Deadline for Foreigner Work Permit Renewals Extended to 30 April 2019

March 29, 2019

As you may be aware, according to the applicable regulations, foreign employees are required to renew their 2019 work permits and employment cards (“Work Permit”) with the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training (“MLVT”) by 31 March 2019.

Through its ministerial announcement (No. 008/19), dated 27 March 2019, the MLVT has extended the deadline for Work Permit renewals to 30 April 2019 (“Extended Deadline”).

Work Permit applications for renewal must be submitted before the Extended Deadline. Any such application submitted to the MLVT after the Extended Deadline may be rejected and renewals not issued.

Failure to obtain renewal of Work Permits may result in monetary fines as imposed by labor inspectors. We therefore urge all employers who have not completed the Work Permit renewal process to take advantage of the Extended Deadline, and submit applications for renewal of Work Permits on time to avoid possible penalties.

Please note that the Extended Deadline above is for renewals only and does not apply to newly-hired foreign employees registering with the MLVT for the first time. Such new Work Permits can be applied for any time after a new foreign employee begins working.

If you have already renewed your foreign employees’ Work Permits, please disregard this email.
