VDB Loi Looks Ahead at Myanmar Infrastructure Challenges in the Wake of COVID 19 Pandemic

March 30, 2020

In partnership with IFC and Australian Aid, VDB Loi hosted a webinar titled “Myanmar Infrastructure Development Facing the COVID-19 Challenge” for Myanmar Hydropower Developers’ Association. The webinar was hosted on 26th March 2020, 2 p.m. (Myanmar Time).

The COVID-19 outbreak is disrupting the world economy and business operations. It is also prone to affect infrastructure development and financing. With the outbreak starting in January, a number of projects did not proceed as expected and most of those which wanted to start construction before the start of the rainy season next month will be temporarily frozen. The webinar examined the specific consequences stakeholders in the infrastructure sector will face in the specific context of a country such as Myanmar.

The topics discussed were the overview of potential legal measures taken by the government, contractual remedies available to developers under PPAs and concession agreements and disruption of general business. Mr. Edwin Vanderbruggen (our Senior Partner), Charles Magdelaine (Counsel) and Marc Maung (Manager) spoke at the webinar.
